Conversational codebases

Talk to a codebase and let it talk back.

Heard Parrot is a conversational layer for codebases. Connect it to any local codebase, say “Hey Parrot”, and ask about architecture, behavior, or anything related to your code. Parrot answers out loud.

Part of Heard Power · Uses Claude Code or Codex on your Mac · Read only

(1) The short answer

Parrot makes a local codebase conversational without pretending an answer is the code itself.

Say “Hey Parrot” on your Mac and ask a question in plain language. Parrot reads the codebase itself, with no setup, and can also ask your installed Claude Code or Codex, read-only, when its own search comes up short. Then it answers out loud. It helps you orient around architecture, ownership, behavior, and change history before you open the exact files.

Parrot is part of Heard Power and never changes your code. Answers point you toward the relevant implementation and evidence rather than replacing source review.

Faster orientation

Start with a direct architectural or behavioral question.

Hands-free answers

Ask by voice and hear the answer without leaving what you are doing.

Reads code, never changes it

Answers come from reading the code; nothing in your projects is edited.

(2)Connect

Ask about a codebase on your Mac.

Parrot reads every agent session’s repository, the folders listed in Settings › Parrot › Project folders, and projects it finds when you ask. Name the project in your question so answers can be checked against a clear source.

(3)Ask

Use questions that lead back to implementation.

Architecture, ownership, data flow, integration boundaries, and recent changes are strong starting points. Ask follow-up questions when an answer needs a file, symbol, or decision path.

  • Ask where a behavior is implemented.
  • Ask which components depend on a service or module.
  • Ask what changed before reviewing the underlying diff.
(4)Read only

Ask freely. Parrot does not change your code.

Parrot’s code tools only read, search and list files, and any coding agent it asks runs read-only, so nothing in your projects is edited. When an answer leads to a change, hand that decision to your coding agent and review it as usual.

How it works

From codebase to conversation

  1. Connect

Get Heard Power and sign in; Parrot finds your local projects with no repo setup.

  2. Ask

Say “Hey Parrot” and ask about architecture, behavior, ownership, and changes.

  3. Verify

Questions, answered.

What is Heard Parrot?

Heard Parrot is the voice assistant inside Heard (heard.dev), the voice layer for coding agents. Say “Hey Parrot” to ask about a codebase out loud; it reads the code and never changes it. See Heard Parrot.

Does Parrot replace reading the code?

No. It helps people find the right concepts and implementation areas. Source code, diffs, tests, and documentation remain authoritative.

Can Parrot make changes to my code?

No. Parrot only reads your code. If you tell it to message an agent session, that agent works on your code as usual.

What do I need to use Parrot?

Heard Power on macOS, signed in, with Microphone permission. Parrot reads your code with no setup; if Claude Code or Codex is installed it can also ask it, read-only.
